Design

Design is a decision making process – often iterative - that involves finding solutions that fit the user, task, and context of use.

In engineering design, the basic sciences, mathematicsand engineering sciences are applied to convert resources optimally to meet a stated objective. Among the fundamental elements of the design process are the establishment of objectives and criteria, synthesis, analysis, construction, testing, and evaluation.

Engineering design typically consists of a number of advancing stages ; concept design, schematic design, developed or detailed design. At each of these stages there are outputs ; typically drawings, reports, calculations and specifications.
