Dr. Methee at Civil Engineering Seminar 2016, Yangon

Dr. Methee Chiewanichakorn was the guest speaker at Yangon Technological University, Myanmar where he presented Seismic Retrofiting of Existing Structures. The well attended event took place on Friday, 18 December 2016 before an audience of engineers and others.

Dr. Methee Chiewanichakorn, Ph.D., S.E., LEED AP BD+C, Executive Structural Engineer, was invited to share his expertise under the topic of Seismic Retrofiting of Existing Structures. The seminar was organized by SMCES (Society of Myanmar Civil Engineers – Singapore) and sponsored by U Nyi Hla Nge Foundation & Yaung Ni Oo Co., Ltd.

The seminar covered the Nonlinear Static Procedure (NSP) or pushover analysis – one of the popular tools for seismic evaluation and retrofit of existing structures. It is believed that the pushover analysis will provide a better understanding of seismic behavior of existing structures when subjected to the design earthquakes. In addition, this method can be used for targeted retrofit of structures which could result in the more efficient retrofitting scheme, lower construction cost and the less disruption to the main operations of the buildings. Nonlinear Static Procedure is one of the recommended methods in ASCE 41-06 – Seismic Rehabilitation of Existing Buildings, for assessing the seismic performance of buildings.
